For crab boat captains on the Bering Sea, crab fishing season is officially half over as depicted on the hit TV show Deadliest Catch. They officially reached the half-way point when king crab season came to an end. Next up, catching the elusive opilio crab.
In the latest episode, we watched two captains – Sig Hansen and Jake Anderson – enjoy the spoils of finishing the season early. They had lower-than-expected quota of king crab to catch and they were able to make quick work of the season and get some much-needed rest before starting the grueling opilio season. We also saw two other captains – Johnathan Hillstrand and Wild Bill Wichrowski – grind out king crab season until the bitter end. They eventually caught their quota and headed home for a short break.
What are you or your sales team doing to finish the first half of the year? Are you cruising to July 1 with your quota already in the bag? Or are you grinding out the last month in hopes of closing the business you need to make the first half a success?
Regardless of your situation, you also need to focus your efforts on making sure you’re set up for success during the second half of the year.
This is a good time to make sure you have the right talent on board to help you “catch” your quota. If you don’t have the right people in the right jobs, you’re fighting a losing battle.
You also need to make sure the talent already on board has the right skills in place to get the job done. This is the time to reinforce key skills and methodologies with your sellers to ensure they head into Q3 with a head of steam.
Do you have the right technology in place to help you win the year? We live in an ever-changing, fast-paced world, and your training must be backed by technology that can deliver information anywhere, any time. This is how your sellers consume information at home. Why should it be any different when they’re at work?
So, as you close out the first half – whether it’s a breeze or a grind – make sure you take the time to ensure your team is ready for success for the rest of the year.
